The advancement plan recognizes a boy's efforts and achievements. It provides fun for the boys, teaches them to do their best, and helps strengthen understanding as family members and den leaders work with boys on advancement requirements. Badges are awarded to recognize advancement, and boys like to receive and wear these badges. The real benefit comes from the worthwhile things the boy learns while he is earning the badges, as his self-confidence and self-esteem grow.
Many of the advancement requirements will be worked on in den meetings or outings, but the advancement program relies heavily on family involvement, with many requirements being completed at home with a family member outside the den. Once a scout completes a requirement, his den leader, parent or guardian, acting as Akela, can sign off on it in ScoutTrack. Please note: many times, after completing a requirement at home, the scout will be asked to present what he has learned or done at his next den or Pack meeting to his peers. Webelos l & ll Webelos is a 20 month program for 4th and 5th grade boys to prepare to join a Boy Scout troop while learning outdoor and life skills and participating in 20 different activity badges. A well-run group of Webelos is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'boy-run patrol', ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop. This migration requires the parents and den leaders to give the scouts more and more control, decision-making power, and responsibility as they progress in skills, ability and maturity.
Boys are recognized each month during the Pack Meetings for the advancements and awards they have earned thus far.

The Tiger Cub
The Tiger Cub program is for first-grade (or age 6) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger cub, working with his adult partner, competes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

The Wolf Cub
The Wolf program is for boys who have completed the first grade (or are age 7). To earn the Wolf badge, a boy must pass 12 achievements involving simple physical and mental skills.

The Bear Cub
The Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 8). There are 24 Bear achievements in four categories:God, Country, Family and Self. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those in the Wolf rank.

The Webelos program has two major milestones - the Webelos rank badge to be earned around March of 4th grade and the Arrow of Light to be earned around March of 5th grade. The final part of Webelos is bridgeing over into a Boy Scout troop selected individually by the scout.
