Community Service

Doing service projects together is one way that Cub Scouts keep their promise "to help other people." While a Scout should do his best to help other people every day, a group service project is a bigger way to help people. While you're giving service, you're learning to work together with others to do something that's good for your community. Life long lessons are learned along the way about the value of helping others.  Pack 11 has a strong history of performing service projects in and around our community. And, this year will be no exception!  Here is a listing of what we have planned thus far.  Please keep checking back to this site more often as new events will be added throught the year.

Field of Dreams Opening Day Community Service Opportuntiy

Arbor Day Tree Planing and Bench Donations
Arbor day is April 29th, 2011
Scouting promotes good citizenship, and instills values such as compassion, resourcefulness, cooperation and teamwork.  We have set a goal for each scout to earn at least $20 to raise money for this upcoming community service project.  Boys can do this by doing chores or good deeds.  There are lots of things he can do - help out at home, assist a neighbor or relative, offer to take care of someone's pet while they are away or be responsible for their mail pick-up.  They can even organize a neighborhood lemonade stand or set-up a mini bake sale at church or a local community event.  Be creative and encourage him to come up with ideas, too.

From now until April your son will be asked to bring any money he has earned thus far to his den and Pack meetings and share with his group how he earned it.  By the middle of April, Pack 11 will collect and combine all the funds and use that money to purchase trees and benches made from recycled plastic which will in turn, be donated to Timberlin Creek Elementary and Liberty Pines Academy in time for Arbor Day.

Use this opportunity to talk to your boys about giving unselfishly and encourage them to think of others as they are working towards their goal.  Most importantly, do not just hand this money over to your child.  To truly be a gift from the heart, they must earn it themselves and give it freely.  As Arbor Day approaches, we will ask the boys to volunteer their time (and abundant energy) to help dig holes and plant the trees.  This will be a great way to not only provide a service to Timberlin Creek and Liberty Pines but it also helps the environment as well.

This annual Pack-11 and St. Augustine tradition is a great experience, not to mention an event that is enjoyable for our scouts and their families.  It is a lot of fun and helps promote our city and our pack within the community.   All participating scouts and leaders should wear their Class A Uniform with blue jeans, closed-toed shoes and if the weather is cold, wear a Navy Blue or White long-sleeve T-Shirt underneath your uniform top.
