Committee Descriptions

The leadership of a Cub Scout pack is made entirely of volunteers. Many parents contribute in various ways, by leading specific events, by sharing talents, or by providing resources. But volunteers make the Pack go!  Thank you for helping to make a difference to these young boys.  You will look back and be glad you did!


Pack Committee Chair (1 position – approximately 10 hours a month)

  • Maintain a close relationship with the chartered organization representative, keeping this key person informed of the needs of the pack that must be brought to the attention of the organization or the district.
  • Report to the chartered organization to cultivate harmonious relations.
  • Confer with the Cubmaster on policy matters relating to Cub Scouting and the chartered organization.
  • Supervise pack committee operation by:

o    Calling and presiding at pack leaders' meetings.

o    Assigning duties to committee members.

o    Planning for pack charter review, roundup, and reregistration.

  • Approve bills before payment by the pack treasurer.
  • Conduct the annual pack program planning conference and pack leaders' meetings.
  • Ask the committee to assist with recommendations for Cubmaster, assistant Cubmasters, Tiger Cub den leaders, Cub Scout den leaders, and Webelos den leaders, as needed.
  • Recognize the need for more dens, and see that new dens are formed as needed.
  • Work with the chartered organization representative to provide adequate and safe facilities for pack meetings.
  • Cooperate with the Cubmaster on council-approved money-earning projects so the pack can earn money for materials and equipment.
  • Manage finances through adequate financial records.
  • Maintain adequate pack records and take care of Pack property
  • If the Cub Master is unable to serve, assume active direction of the pack until a successor is recruited and registered.

 

 

Cub Master (1 position - approx 4-5 hours/month) –

 

·         Work directly with the Pack Trainer, den leaders, den chiefs and pack committee chair and members to make sure that all dens are functioning well.

·         Plan the den and pack programs with the help of other leaders.

·         Lead the monthly pack meetings – include all dens in some way.

·         Coordinate the total cub scout program in the pack.

 

Assistant Cub Master (1 position - approx 1-2 hours/month) –

·         assist the Cub Master in planning, running and leading monthly Pack meetings

·         Be available to run a Pack meeting if necessary

·         Be a secondary point of contact for den leaders and parents to answer questions.

 

Treasurer  (1 Position - approx. 1-2 hours / month) –

·         Manages finances and maintains financial records

·         Maintains bank account in the pack's name and ensures a system of checks and balances,

·         Approves and keeps a record of all expenditure

·         Check all disbursements against budget allowances

·         Collects dues and pays bills 

·         Periodically report on the Pack's financial position at Pack Meetings and makes regular monthly reports at the Pack's Leadership meetings. 

 

Pack Trainer – (1 position)

·         Conducting orientation of new families and pack leaders

·         Encouraging pack leaders to attend Cub Scout Leader Basic Training, which includes New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader Specific Training

  • Helping with Unit Leadership Enhancements during pack leaders' meetings.
  • Conducting other training as designated by the district and/or council
  • Encouraging pack leaders to attend ongoing training such as Youth Protection training, roundtable, pow wow, BALOO, Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders, and Wood Badge
  • Remaining current with training material and program updates
  • Keeping track of pack training records
  • Encouraging den chiefs to attend Den Chief Training

Assistant to Popcorn Sales Coordinator - (2 positions a few hours on specific Saturdays until the end of Popcorn drive)

·         Assist with distribution of sales materials to scouts and with money and order collection at Den and Pack Meetings

·         Helps raise the awareness of the need for fundraising

·         Promote enthusiasm within the Pack and with parents

·         Help with Saturday Blitz Day and Show n' Sell' events at local area supermarkets

·         Help with popcorn dissemination and distribution at Pack Meetings.

 

Campouts - (2 positions - a few hours of planning and shopping time before campouts - approximately 3 campouts / per year) 

·         Assist Cub Master with planning and arranging outdoor activities and campouts

·         Responsible for first aid kit for emergencies

·         Assist Webelos and den leaders plan overnight campouts

·         Obtain BALOO training certificate (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

·         Help promote family camp opportunities

·         Be aware of BSA Health and Safety requirements

·         Plan, coordinate and shop for Pack meals at campouts.

 

Awards and Advancements - (1 position - approx. 2 hours/month) –

·         Have a working knowledge of the Tiger Cub, Scout Cub and Webelow advancement requirement

·         Maintains record of advancements

·         Purchases belt loops, awards, pins and badges and awards them at each Pack meeting

·         Coordinates the bridging ceremony

·         Collect Den advancement reports from ScoutTrac for use when ordering badges and insignia

·         Promotes the wearing and proper use of uniform and insignia.

 

Banquets / Special Events (2-3 positions - approximately 6-8 hours prior to event)

·         Works with the pack committee to plan and coordinate the Blue and Gold Banquet in March and the Bridging Ceremony in May

·         Work with cub master on budget, speakers, activities and awards to be presented

·         Plan menu and assist with purchasing food, plates, decorations, etc...,

·         Recruit a sub-committe for set-up and tear down.

 

Den Leaders and Den Leader Assistants -  (several positions - approximatey 1-2 hours per week). 

·         Give leadership to carrying out the Pack program in the den

·         Lead the den in its participation at Pack Meetings

·         Plan and execute den activities and solicit parent involvement

·         Encourage scouts to earn advancement awards

·         Keep accurate advancement records through ScoutTrac and see that the boys receive recognition for their achievements

·         Take part in Pack leader meetings

·         Work closely with Den family members to strengthen den operation;

 

Community Service Projects (2 positions - approximately 5-6 hours prior to the event).

·         Plan and coordinate a Pack-wide community service project or event

·         promote enthusiasm for participation and speak about the importance of helping our community at a Pack meeting;

·         Assist Den Leaders with ideas for comminity service projects within the den.

 

Pinewood Derby Coordinator - (2 positions - approximatey 5-6 hours prior to the event). 

·         Help promote enthusiasm and excitement to scouts at Pack Meetings

·         Plan and coordinate a Pack-wide Pinewood Derby workshop

·         Order and distribute model kits to scout

·         Purchase awards and medals

·         Plan and coordinate actual race-day activities

·         Be familiar with Derby rules and regulations and

·         Be a source of contact to answer questions from parents and scouts.
