Welcome Bear Scouts

As we embark on the Bear trail we will be working very hard to earn our Bear badge.  The activities for achievements and advancements are a bit more challenging this year, but don't worry, we will have a lot of fun along the way!

To earn the Bear badge we must complete 12 achievements out of a possible 24 that are offered.  A complete listing of these can be found in your Bear Scout Handbook and/or on ScoutTrack.  The achievements are grouped in 4 major areas:

GOD (must complete one of two achievements)
COUNTRY (must complete three of five achievements)
FAMILY (must complete four of six achievements), and
SELF (must complete four of eleven achievements)

For every three achievements completed, you will earn a red bead to place on your Progress Towards Ranks emblem.  Also any achievements that are completed but are not used to earn the Bear badge may be used to earn Arrow Points but only after the Bear Badge has been earned.

We will be working on many of these during our Den meetings, but please remember that the majority of these achievements will be completed at home with your family.  Completing achievements is not difficult.  Look for for opportunities in your everday life.  For example, helping plan and prepare a family dinner earns part of the What's Cooking achievement, and going on a clean-up hike with your famiy or friends earns part of the Take Care of Your Planet achievement.  Once a project is completed, you or your parent or guardian, acting as Akela, can sign off on it in ScoutTrack.  Don't forget, in order to be recognized for any achievement earned all completed requirements for the month must be entered in ScoutTrack no later than midnight on the Sunday preceeding the next Pack Meeting.

If a scout completes a requirement at home, he should be prepared to share what he has done or learned at the next den or Pack meeting.

And, anytime along the way you can work on requirements to earn Belt Loops and Pins.

We have an exciting year planned and we are glad you are with us.  If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact your Den Leader.
